Thoughts of a Soldier’s Girlfriend
(an attempt at a Petrarchan Sonnet)
How long it will be ‘til I see your face!
Time stretches out as an eternal stream
Gone in a whirl but remaining in dream
An empty void fills your once adored place
Oh how these reaching arms long to embrace
You who, in my eye, does shimmer, agleam
Tell me it all was a fraudulent scheme
And back, swiftly, you’ll return with much haste
A minute’s increased in length to a year
Night blankets my sense of sight evermore
Without you to waken the latent sun
But even if realized is my fear
And never again do mine eyes adore
Our love willn’t be, in life nor death, undone.
